Pharos - Maritime Security Briefings

The Maritime Community must meet unique requirements involving passengers, crew and charterers, and also international regulations, most recently ISPS. Drum Cussac launched Pharos - a port-specific reporting system - in 2004 to allow mariners to determine the appropriate measures to be adopted.

These reports aim to highlight the security environment behind the published maritime security level (MARSEC Level) to focus on the actual risk rather than broad categories of threat. Designed in close conjunction with our valued maritime clients, Pharos is a single-page assessment of a specific port. This format allows the Master or Ship Security Officer (SSO) to quickly assess the realistic risks faced in a location and act accordingly.

Pharos is a subscription service delivering reports on an 8-week cycle and updates when events occur. Currently Pharos reports are available in Adobe PDF, but Drum Cussac is proud to announce that in early 2006, Pharos will be available for access via the internet directly from your desktop.

Specialist transit reports are also available for particular high-risk transit locations. Reports for areas, such as the Straits of Malacca and Red Sea, address the particular threats present in these dangerous regions and look at their range.

Potential hazards and threats covered include:

  • Political unrest forecast, recent events
  • Port-specific information
  • Onshore threats, crime, petty theft, terrorism
  • Offshore threats, piracy, hijack
  • Risk rating
  • Port ISPS compliance data
  • MARSEC level
