Government Report Calls for Tighter Regulation
Further to the announcement from the Foreign Affairs Committee a report from Channel 4 News detailed further the challenges facing British private security firms providing counter piracy services off Somalia.
Drum Cussac welcomes the initiative calling for clarity and proper guidance on the legal use of force and has always followed and constantly exceeded the strict guidelines laid down but agrees that further discussion is required.
David Pickard, Vice President of Maritime at Drum Cussac commented that, The challenge will be for Governments and flag states to agree on a global standard and remove the current level of ambiguity without compromising the operational safety of crew and security teams.
In addition to Drum Cussac's stringent selection and training programmes our teams are supported by high quality equipment along with sophisticated technology on transits in the form of our own proprietary Risk Assessment software called APTAS (Automated Piracy Threat Assessment System) which analysis piracy activity over their given route and backed up by a vessel monitoring system and manned response centre.
